FIT STUDYAs a fitness professional I am well aware of the benefits of exercise in preventing chronic disease. Physical activity offers so much more than prevention alone. Exercise can also be a powerful complement to traditional medical intervention and, in many instances, may allow a physician to significantly reduce a patient's drug dosage or eliminate the need for medicine altogether. Our 30 day Fitness Study sets out to prove just that. This is an official study and is a collaborative effort between Janet Bannowsky and Jay Izhar of Anytime Fitness and Dr. Bob Sallis of Kaiser Permanente here in Rancho Cucamonga. Together we are seeking current Kaiser patients volunteers for one of three month long studies slated for December 2010, January 2011 and February 2011. Times will vary based on predominant volunteer schedules but generally run Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10 as well as Monday, Wednesday evenings at 6:30 and Saturday mornings at 10. This will vary based on need or additional classes will be added as needed. The results of these studies will be reviewed by Dr. Sallis and his Kaiser affiliates in an effort to validate the well known theory of "An ounce of prevention is better (and cheaper!!!) than a pound of cure. With medical expenses out of control for both the Medical Community and patients we are back to healing through exercise as the obvious answer.
